Friends of St Mary’s 9 Lessons & Carols Service

Just a quick post to remind you that on Sunday 19th December at 5pm, we will be holding our traditional 9 Lessons and Carols Service, which you are warmly invited to attend.

The service will begin at 5pm, but if you’d like to come earlier, you may enjoy hearing the Hawkesbury Ringers ringing our wonderful new bells from 4.30pm – a fitting start to a service filled with traditional Christmas music, led by Director of Music Ben Humphries, with the choir.

There will be plenty of parking available in the field beside the church. Please bring a torch if you think you will need one to negotiate your way to the church porch.

For health and safety reasons, please wear a mask in church. Unfortunately for social distancing reasons, we’ve had to cancel our plans to share mince pies and mulled wine with you after the service, but we are sure that in our beautiful setting, the service will be hugely enjoyable.

If you’re not able to attend, or you’d like to share our service with friends and relations further afield, here’s the video link to view the service on Youtube. It will go live at the time of the service and remain visible afterwards for you to view at your leisure.

December 2021 News

Lisa White, Secretary of Friends of St Mary’s, writes:

Our annual service of Nine Lessons and Carols is scheduled for Sunday 19th December at 6pm in St Mary’s, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for this lovely occasion, which heralds the start of our Christmas worship.

Last year, Covid closed the church and our service could not take place, so we hope restrictions will not deter us this December, and we will celebrate with traditional carols, readings and a welcome from St Mary’s wonderful bells.

Following the service, mulled wine and mince pies will be served at Church Farm House. Please come and join us!

Despite everything that hit our community and country, 2021 proved to be a time of tremendous achievement for St Mary’s, with the completion of the stonework repairs to the tower, the refit of the vestry and south porch, and the installation of the splendid bells. Once again, we thank all those who have contributed to and supported this work which will be honoured for generations to come.

The Friends of St Mary’s Committee wish everyone a joyful, peaceful and hopeful Christmas and New Year.
